Democracy 2.0: The Only Digital-First Political Party
A group of software technologists in Buenos Aires, Argentina are playing on the edge of the future of democracy and it may have real implications for countries like the USA and Canada. The Net Party will run their first field of candidates for the legislature in the city and to run as a candidate fo...

Jonas Liljegren It's not the ONLY of its kind.
Paul Nollen And not the first but that is not important.
Ako Zoom the only thing at first which makes that a false way, is to consider to be a party: all that goes to a diminishing influence and "strict words" usages:
Parties are the plea of any post-democracy: considering that, representatives of those are leaders
without openness out the "dogmatism" of the party (after some years...):
at 1st: ok : a recognizable group, but next it is crucial and for a good life, that the tools (webtools also) are enough diffused and used to make a structure of global decision planning against the old/today "oriented experts" near politicians who make projects be sometimes big prize, other real failure: politic as usual.
!WE must get out of any party solution to open the real values of anyone able to participate/say/help on any common/public projects...
The first sense of this start is to make their (and others) tools be used and well simply known (usual) for any one to be part of a decision considering his middles, environnement, territories: never more just a "clique"/oligarches/"riches" (or just say, the ones who access more than any other to usual propaganda medias...).
If they really keep trace of old politic system, then that's also an old one too: that means directly that nothing really new could be done with that, even if they are high technicians/hackers/anonymous ones ...: that just keeps the traditionnal ways: with all their corruptions surely.
Where are the next paradigms applications if.. values/ethics/senses and utopias are key words

Paul Nollen Hi Ako, I fully agree. But the first step is to breach the power of the particracy.

    1 Italian Politics Today

ISBN 0719049431 Hilary Partridge Manchester University Press

(page 69)….. A particracy is a form of government in which influential personages within the political parties, rather than an executive accountable to parliament, are the primary base of rule, determining the use of public resources, the allocation of important posts and ultimately the development of policy. Real power resides in the faction leaders and party bosses, who negotiate among themselves to distribute the positions of power, from government office (such as ministerial posts) to key positions of control in the public sector...

    Patronage and clientelism

(page 72).. As the DC's room for manoeuvre in coalition negotiations diminished, the party increasingly used the distribution of public resources to bolster its electoral support in a strategy of patronage. Later, other parties began to imitate this strategy …

(page 75) .. These trade-offs contributed to the development of the spoils-sharing system, in which ministerial posts, positions on the administrative board of public sector corporations and so on were shared out in rough proportion to the share of the vote gained by parties ….
2 Law, Justice and the State: The nation, the state and democracy, Volume 2

Michel Troper & Mikael M. Karlsson

    Franz Steiner Verlag Stuttgart

    ISBN 3-515-06678-0

The framework for democracy, for rights, and for sovereignty is, of course, the law.

(page 72) .. at the beginning the change of the direct parliamentary model through political parties brought a serious hope of recovery and renewal of the democratic idea: first, because of the internal democratic structure of every party, which took a pyramid shape structure from the militant members of the party up to the vertex organizer and executor of the political programma approved by the assembly, which implied, on the other side, that every party will be automatically turned into a school of democracy, because of their programmes of political education, and the gradual membership of the citizens, following their personal preferences; second, because of the reconversion of the parliamentary system and the government that their meditation brought. However, it did happen the other way around: far away from democratizing the management of basic institutions of the state, the political parties were, in the first place polluted and, afterwards absorbed, by the oligarchical dynamic of liberal democratic model (at different stages) R. Michels could already elaborate his “iron law” about the oligarchicalization of political parties in 1911 from his research of political parties in 1911 ….

In the end, we find, not the expected democracy, but the so called particracy (another way of oligarchy) . As a consequence … following frequently the logic of the lesser evil, or otherwise voting blank (I protest, I vote blank because my democratic consciousness cannot find an authentic channel of expression) or even choosing the so called punishment vote (that is, radical options which are never going to win, but whose electoral promotion might be specially painful for the the government or for the political class in general) …..
Ako Zoom yep ! thanks, same views .. then noted on link: "Once elected, they will consult with the people on each important issue both educating the electorate and getting their viewpoint. Any citizen can engage, not just those who are members of the party and regardless of who they voted for. That is, the Net Party will be responsible to represent the views of all the citizens." and that appears like a transitionnal way, which is good too...
just need the focus on real projects and not "idea" projects.
Ako Zoom reading i think more could be written on that: "The framework for democracy, for rights, and for sovereignty is, of course, the law." .. not law, but EthiC, a shared ,consensual, simple choice of "acting for all and me too like others"...: not a contract ! . a large idea builds the right Ethic: if we saty in laws: always there will be trickers, always, as usual who are lazy or just opportunists to find the fail fo any law to get in.. be trapped or not, law is for humans like chains to be broken...
Ethic is far more profund, and have to be installed in all culture as the "rights" focus to be and act like a human: trust as brick, and values to make the ethic be the first subtsitute for law... (so brief.. ;))
